Art!

1.       My expectations from this course were to learn about different artists as well as different artworks. I also expected to learn about different kinds of art pieces and different medias. Yes, my expectations were met. The book readings, trips to art gallery, and collaboration with my classmates made for a very successful semester.

2.       Art is something that is beautiful and meaningful to you. Art has no definition and it has no limits or boundaries.

3.       In my initial posting I said that Picasso was my favorite artist. I still find his work amazing and so creative. I would still consider Pablo Picasso my favorite artist.

4. I was apprehensive in the beginning to take an online course, however once I got situated and realized my requirements I found it to be a very positive experience at Buffalo

Self Portait

1. I selected three pieces of art because I thought they were very interesting and creative pieces works of art. They really captured the individual’s true nature and beauty. I think these pieces are very intriguing and they it really forces you to look at the individuals expressions and posture in the pieces of art. 2. I selected the media to create my self image because I thought it would be the best way to capture different elements from my actual photo. I thought it was important to really capture the smile, hair, and facial expressions. I thought this media would show the best results. 3. The challenges I faced were having the correct sizes and shape of my head. I also faced trying to capture my slightly pivoted to the side. I also thought it was challenging capturing detail within my facial expressions. However, I overcame this by just trying by best and trying to have it become natural and let it flow. 4. This piece represents me because it describes my personality as a fun, outgoing person. I believe it is just a natural photo with no glitz or glamour. 5. The elements of art used in this piece are lines used within my facial expressions. I also used texture within my hair. Space is another element used to show distance within my facial features. Principles of art used are proportion to show the size relationship of my parts of my face to my whole head. I also used unity to work a sense of completion. 6. Yes, I really enjoyed working on this project. I thought it was interesting turning the focus on me rather than other people or objects. It was quite interesting and I liked it. 7. I thought my artwork was okay. I didn’t think it was the best artwork that I produced throughout the semester. However, I thought it was challenging and that is what I truly liked about it. I think my artwork was unique and almost added an abstract element to it. Berkshire Museum 1. Blog Reflection

1. The projects I chose to review were The Beauty of City by Brandon Martens, Colorful Expression; A Closer Look at the Art of Cubism, and Land, Land, All Around by Victoria Renodin. 2. I selected the exhibit to critique because I thought Brandon Martens idea and concepts were very interesting. I wanted to learn more about his exhibit and find out the pieces of art he chose to be in his exhibit. 3. I didn’t really face any challenges while writing the critique. I thought it flowed smoothly. My selection of Brandon’s exhibit really helped me to right a successful critique because I had so many different ideas and opinions to contribute to his exhibit 4. I thought it was fun critiquing my peers work. They had so many different, interesting ideas. I think it’s amazing how when you put no limits on a project all the different creativities that can evolve from each and every one of us. 5. Yes, I would love to hear their different ideas and comments. I would like to see what they like, didn’t like, or maybe something I could have added or changed. 6. I would rate my finished article a 10. I completed it to the best of my ability and critiqued all of the areas necessary. 7. Yes, I enjoyed working on this project because it was something I never have experienced before. Being a business major, there isn’t much opportunity to complete projects of this nature so it really allowed me to think outside of the box.

Week 15 Blog Reviews!

1. The key concepts learned in Greenberg on Art Criticism: An Interview by T.J. Clark: • The great critics aren’t just people who put judgment taste into print • Diderot did more or less through morality and Baudelair and Gauef pins down judgment are taste in the end. • Clark believes that writing about visual art is much tougher than writing about literature or music • When you write about music you’re a formalist while visual art has no score The key concepts learned in The Critics: Stories from the Inside Pages: • A good critic will both be giving fresh ideas or suggesting fresh ways of looking at things • Reading is a deep, unique, human pleasure • Proper piece of film criticism is more analytical • Criticism helps open up a work, so that people see it in a different way • You must be able to find a way to figure out a way to grab readers attention especially while they are in the car 2. Yes, the videos both relate to the art criticism project because they both explain different techniques and way to go about judging a piece of art work visually. Both of the videos explain different concepts and ways it is done from a professional standpoint 3. I enjoyed watching both films and I believe that they had added a deeper understanding of art criticism. I think it was important to watch these films to expand on our knowledge of art criticism. Both videos showed different viewpoint from so many different critique’s. I enjoyed watching and learning from them both.
