Review on Architecture Videos

Architecture: The Science of Design 1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. a. Skyscrapers are built to withstand not only gravity, but also wind, precipitation, and earthquakes. b. Components are riveted to support walls, buildings, and floors. c. Two distinct parts of skyscrapers are the superstructure, which is all that stands above and the undergroung substructure. d. Bars of metal ae placed into concrete to improve resistance to traction and flection Classical Architecture a. The buildinds of Greek and Roman empires have had a strong and abiding influence on generations of architecture b. When nations want to express how successful and important they are they build grandious monuments. c. Paints are created to show how wonderful architecutre and how beautiful everything was. d. John Nashfamed for his vast classical urban projects around Regents Parkland. 2. These videos relate to the readings in the text by explaing the structural importance of architects. Also, the beautiful creations of the Greek and Romans architecture. 3. I enjoyed watched the films. I learned a lot about what goes into architecture and the thought process behind it. I also thought it was interesting how the Greek and Romans created such amazing arhcitecture and how we have expanded from their ideas. 4. I chose the films to watch becuae I wanted to learn about what goes into the process of creating architecture and I also wanted to learn more about classical architecture. I always thought classical architecture was so beautiful and I wanted to see more pieces.
